The immediate implementation of the 9th wage board award for the newspaper and news agency journalists and employees has been demanded.

‘Our Media Our Rights’, an independent platform which working for media workers’ rights, placed the demands in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The organisation said that the 9th wage board award should not only be enforced but also be extended to include all media employees, including those work in electronics, and online platforms.

Ashraful Islam Rana, a spokesperson for the platform, signed the statement.

The statement said that it was disheartening to see that despite positive initiatives were being taken in other sectors following the formation of the new government, media workers continue to be overlooked.

‘The current wage structure, established in 2013, has seen no increase in eleven years, leaving workers in dire financial crisis,’ read the statement.

The organisation also urged the government to take immediate steps to amend the 9th Wage Board of 2019 in consultation with all stakeholders and ensure its effective implementation.

The 9th Wage Board recommendations are yet to be effectively implemented due to indifference of the government and media owners’, it said.
