At least seven people were killed and eight others injured in two separate road accidents in Gazipur and Pabna between Saturday night and Sunday.

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Gazipur reported that five people were killed and another was injured when a truck hit a CNG-run auto rickshaw on the Tongi-Kaliganj-Ghorashal bypass road at Kaliganj in Gazipur on Saturday night.


The deceased, Rabeya Begum, 75, her son Mohammad Ali, 45, and Ali’s son Aman Ullah, 5, residents of Akhrashala village under Shibpur in Narsingdi, and Amal Kuamr Karmakar, 39, resident of Gazipur city and Nazmul, 35, resident of Satkhira district, were the passengers of the auto-rickshaw.

Kaliganj circle additional superintendent of police Md Asaduzzaman said that when the auto-rickshaw was trying to overtake a covered van, a truck from opposite side hit it in front of the Pran RFL factory in Mulgaon area of Kaliganj at about 11:00pm, leaving four people spot dead.

People of the area rescued two critically injured, including the auto-rickshaw driver and a child to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared the child dead.

The driver was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Md Asaduzzaman also said they recovered the bodies and seized the auto-rickshaw and the covered van. ‘A process is underway to take legal actions in this regard.’

The United News of Bangladesh reported that two passengers of a battery-run rickshaw were killed and seven others injured after a bus crashed into the vehicle on the Pabna-Ishwardi highway in Pabna on Sunday.

The deceased are Shimul Hossain, 32, resident of Sahapur Jashodal village of Pabna sadar, and Safar Ali, 35, Islam Ganti Bhatapara village of the same upazila.

Rowshan Ali, officer-in-charge of Pabna sadar police station said that the Ishwardi-bound Sabbir Paribahan bus hit the rickshaw at Sahapur area.

People of the area rescued the injured and taken to Pabna General Hospital where Shimul and Safar succumbed to their injuries upon arrival.

As the condition of four of the seven injured is critical, they have been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and the remaining three to Pabna General Hospital, Rowshan Ali mentioned.

The bus driver fled with the bus, he added.
