
At least eight people were arrested and 11 firearms, including a shotgun from Noakhali-4 constituency lawmaker Ekramul Karim Chowdhury鈥檚 family graveyard in the district were recovered in the government launched joint operations between Thursday night and Friday.
Law enforcers also recovered illegal arms and arrested the people in Dhaka, Natore and Cox鈥檚 Bazar during the timeframe.
Joint forces arrested eight people with arms and bullets from PM khali union under Sadar Upazila of Cox鈥檚 Bazar on Friday morning, 抖阴精品 correspondent in the district reported.
A joint force comprised of the military, police, Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh conducted a raid in the Maijpara area and arrested them in the presence of Cox鈥檚 Bazar district executive magistrate Nowsher Ibn Halim.
They recovered firearms including two foreign pistols, three single-shot guns, two LG pistols, 48 rounds of cartridges, and three magazines during the raid.
The arrested are Kalim Ullah, 34, son of聽 Kabir Ahmed of Maijpara area, Md Khurshed Alam, 37, son of Forkan Ahmed, Hasan Sharif Laden, 20, son of聽 Md Shafiullah, Shahin, 23, son of Mohammad Ali, Md Mizan, 20, son of Mahabullah, Abdul Malek, 48, son of Kabir Ahmed, Abdul Hai, 24, and Abdul Aziz, 25, son of Mahmudul Haque.
RAB-15 senior assistant director Md Abul Kalam Chowdhury said that the arrested had admitted their involvement in various extremist activities in neighbouring areas of PM Khali union.
He said that the eight arrested persons were handed over to the Cox鈥檚 Bazar Sadar police station after filing a case.
On Tuesday, Police Headquarters said that a total of 5,829 different types of weapons were looted and 3,763 were recovered.
The police are yet to recover 2,066 weapons and 3,20,660 rounds of ammunition, the police headquarters added. 聽
PHQ public relations officer AKM Kamrul Ahsan told 抖阴精品 that they did not receive any data centrally about the joint operations.
An abandoned shotgun and 112 rounds of cartridges were recovered by the law enforcers from a graveyard at Kabirhat upazila in Noakhali last night, state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.
Former AL lawmaker for Noakhali-4 Ekramul Karim Chowdhury was the owner of the shotgun that was not surrendered to the police station, Noakhali district superintendent of police Mohammad Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter.
Former upazila parishad chairman Atahar Ishraque Shabab Chowdhury said that his father was the owner of the shotgun that was not surrendered to Kabirhat police station on time as his father Ekramul Kabir Chowdhury was sick.
A team of joint forces recovered a single-shot gun along with two rounds of bullets from the house of Natore district unit leader of Juba League, the youth wing of the Awami League at Sadar upazila early Friday, United News of Bangladesh reported.
Natore Sadar police station officer-in-charge Shafiqul Islam said that the joint force led by executive magistrate Saddam Hossain, conducted the drive in the Chowdhury Para area at around 5:00pm.
He said that during the drive the Juba League leader was not found there.
Members of RAB-2 on Thursday night recovered three abandoned shotguns, 98 rounds of cartridges, and a police belt from the Beribadh area under Mohammadpur police station in Dhaka city, said a press release.
These arms were part of the weapons and ammunition looted from various police stations in the capital on August 5.
The government asked all to submit licensed firearms issued between 2009 and 2024 by September 3.
