Dr Nahreen Akhtar

Dr Nahreen Akhtar, professor at the Department of Fetomaternal Medicin, has been appointed as the new treasurer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

In a notification signed on Sunday by deputy secretary of the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Professor Nahreen Akhtar was made treasurer of the university for a term of four years.


Nahreen Akhtar obtained her bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery from Dhaka Medical College in 1985. She obtained a DGO degree in 1995 and a FCPS degree from the BCPS in 1998 under Dhaka University.

In 2003, she started her teaching career in the obstetrics and gynaecology department of the BSMMU as an assistant professor. She served as associate professor in the fetomaternal medicin department in 2006 and as professor in 2015, and as department head from 2020 to 2023.

She has about 50 publications both at national and international level. She also served as a guide in various research programmes and presented papers in various conferences at national and international levels.

Professor Dr Nahreen Akhtar is also vice-president of the Phytomaternal Medicine Society of Bangladesh.
