A case was filed against 13 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, on Sunday night with the Mohammadpur police station for killing Mahmudur Rahaman Saikat on July 19.

The victim’s father Mahabubur Rahamn filed the case as plaintiff after waiting at the police station for more than eight hours.

Sharina Afroz Supti, the victim’s elder sister told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they had to wait for more than eight hours to lodge the case as the police did not show any interest to record it.

‘We could finally file the case at about 11:30pm though we went to the police station at about 3:00pm,’ she said.

Asked about the delay in recording the case, Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge Iftekhar Hasan said that he took over the charges of the police station as the new OC on Sunday.

‘Filing the case was delayed due to absence of the OC. Inspector (investigation) was confused whether he would take the case or wait for me to join,’ the OC added.

He claimed that they filed the case at about 6:30pm, and the time was also mentioned in the case statement.

The other high profile accused in the case include former jute and textile minister and Awami League presidium Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former state minister for information and broadcasting Mohammad A Arafat, former inspector general of police Choudhury Abdullah Al Mamun and former Dhaka Metropalitan Police joint commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarkar.
