National minority women on Friday protested at an incident of rape of a woman from the Chakma community in Khagrachari鈥檚 Ramgarh upazila.
They demanded arrest and exemplary punishment for persons involved in the incident.
They made the demand at a protest rally organised by Hill Women鈥檚 Federation and Parbatya Chattogran Nari Sangha at Sajek.
Speakers at the rally said that this was not an isolated event but part of the ongoing state repression against people of the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the conspiracy to wipe out the national minorities.
Despite the fall of the fascist Sheikh Hasina government in the country, military rule was still maintained in the CHT.
They said that people of plain land had been freed from fascist rule, but the people of hills were still under the grip of dictatorial rule.
They also demanded taking effective measures to stop violence against women across the country, including the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Earlier on Thursday night, a Chakma housewife was raped allegedly by two Bengali settlers in Khagrachari鈥檚 Ramgarh upazila.
The victim said that she recognised one of the rapists.
The rapist is Md Yusuf, 22, a resident of Cumilla Colony under Patachhara union of Ramgarh, she added.
Ramgarh police could not be reached over the phone for comments despite several attempts.
