Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Ruhul Quddus Kazal have been chosen as the president and the secretary respectively to run Supreme Court Bar Association during tenure of the interim government of Professor Muhammad Yunus.

The 14-member interim executive committee for the association was declared by pro-BNP lawyers after holding an emergency general meeting under the banner of Supreme Court General Lawyers at the association鈥檚 auditorium in the wake of fall of Sheikh Hasina鈥檚 government on August 5.

The incumbent EC committee, led by secretary Shah Monjurul Haque, used to refrain from coming to the court after the resignation of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

The EGM cancelled the 14-member incumbent executive committee, alleging rigging in the association鈥檚 election held on March 6 and 7 which marked clashes between supporters of Monju and Kazal.

Ten candidates leaning to the BNP, who could not won the election, were co-opted onto the interim committee, stating that there was a rigging in the election and counting of votes under the then ruling Awami League government was manipulated.

The other office-bearers of the interim executive committee are Mohammad Humayun Kabir Manju and Sarkar Tahmina Begum Sandha (vice-president), Mahfuzur Rahman Milon and Abdul Karim (assistant secretaries), Rezaul Karim Reza (treasurer), and聽 executive members Syed Fazle Ehahi Ovi, ABM Ibrahim Khalil, Fatema Akhter, Shafiqul Islam, Ashiquzzaman Nazrul, Mohiuddin Md Hanif and Rassel Ahmed.
