Two minor boys suffered severe splinter injuries when an abandoned crude bomb they picked up exploded in Rajshahi city on Monday noon.

The injured are Md Abdullah, 7, son of Alamgir Hossain, and Saba, 8, son of Md Shahin of Tikapara area in the city.


Witnesses said that the two children found a carton filled with crude bombs wrapped in scotch tape in garbage near their house while playing.

When they picked up a crude bomb from the carton and threw it assuming it to be a tennis ball, the bomb exploded, leaving the children injured.

On information, members of the Bangladesh Army and Border Guard Bangladesh rushed to the spot and recovered the carton of crude bombs.

Dr Sankar K Biswas, in-charge of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital’s emergency department, said that the boys sustained severe splinter injuries to lower parts of the body and were undergoing treatment at the child surgery unit of the hospital.

Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Boalia model police station, said that he was ill and did not go to the police station on Monday.

‘I heard news of the explosion of a crude bomb from journalists. The army and BGB personnel went to the spot,’ he added.
