Several hundred protesters, including students and lawyers, gathered on the Supreme Court premises and demanded the resignation of the chief justice and the judges of the Appellate Division on Saturday.

The full court meeting of the Supreme Court, which was scheduled to be held on Saturday, was postponed amid protests.

Md Shafiqul Islam, public relations officer of the Supreme Court, said the chief justice had called a full court meeting on Saturday to decide how to conduct the court proceedings and discuss other issues.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, newly appointed adviser for the youth and sports ministry of the Interim government, said that the chief justice had called the meeting without discussing it with the government.

‘Any kind of conspiracy of the defeated forces will not be tolerated. Lawyers have already gathered to protest. We had earlier asked the chief justice to resign. If they take a stance against the students and people and provoke them, they will have to face terrible consequences,’ he said in the post.

He also demanded the unconditional resignation of the chief justice and a halt of the full court meeting.
