Nagarik Odhikar Surakkha Jote at a press conference on Thursday urged the interim government to take strict measures against all forms of violence, attacks, and looting across the country.

The group also called for instructions to be given to the army and law enforcement agencies to safeguard all establishments, including homes and places of worship, of all religious, racial, and national minorities, as well as other marginalised communities.


At the press conference titled ‘Expectation from the interim government: Ensuring protection for citizens, including religious, national minorities and other marginalised communities ‘held at Dhaka Reporters Unity, they further demanded that those responsible for criminal activities, including murders and attacks, be brought to justice. 

Association for Land Reform and Development executive director Shamsul Huda, who read a written statement, said that they held this event to uphold expectations of the public for this interim government. 

The expectations included UN-led fair investigations into violence and justice for all murders and sabotage incidents related to the student quota reform movement, legal action against already identified culprits, a comprehensive list of those killed, injured, or attacked during the movement, compensation for families of the deceased, rehabilitation of those physically harmed, and reforms of all state-owned organisations.

Barrister Sara Hossain said that many people, including students, were arrested by the Sheikh Hasina regime centring Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and many of them had not been released yet.

The Supreme Court lawyer also called for abolishing the Cyber Security Act and settlement of cases filed under other repressing acts.

Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association chief executive Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Nijera Kori coordinator Khushi Kabir and Naripokkho member Shireen Huq, Supreme Court senior lawyers Tabarak Hussain and Subrata Chowdhury also spoke at the event, among others.
