The authorities of Jahangirnagar University on Friday issued a show cause notice to professor Shamima Sultana, chairperson of the university鈥檚 Bengali department, for removing a portrait of prime minister Sheikh Hasina from her office.
JU registrar Abu Hasan confirmed the matter to reporters.
The decision to issue the notice was made during a special syndicate meeting chaired by JU vice-chancellor Nurul Alam, he said.
Professor Shamima Sultana has been given seven days from August 3 to submit her response to the notice.
The incident occurred on Thursday when professor Shamima Sultana removed the prime minister鈥檚 portrait from her office, reportedly blaming Sheikh Hasina for the killing, attacking, torturing, and arresting of students involved in the quota reform protests.
