
At least five people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Rajbari and Barishal on Friday.
In Rajbari, three people died and three others were injured in a collision between a bus and a truck on the Daulatdia-Kushtia regional highway near the Technical Training Centre in Alipur union under Rajbari Sadar upazila, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.
The deceased are Shakib, 22, a truck helper from Kushtia Sadar, BM Nazimuddin, 50, a resident of Rajbari Sadar and another individual whose identity is yet to be confirmed.
Ahladipur highway police station officer-in-charge Abdul Halim stated that the accident occurred when a Faridpur-bound passenger bus collided head-on with a cement-laden truck coming from the opposite direction. The truck fell into a roadside ditch, and the bus crashed into a shop.
Police have seized both vehicles.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Barishal reported that two people were killed in a collision between a covered van and a pickup van on the Dhaka-Barishal highway near the Gournadi bus stand.
The victims are Muhammad Mahim, 20, from Kalkini upazila in Madaripur and Alek Howladar, 42, a resident of Bakerganj in Barishal, who was also a passenger in the pickup van.
Alek Howladar’s wife Asma Begum, who sustained injuries in the accident, said that they were transporting household goods from Dhaka to Bakerganj in the pickup van.
Gournadi highway police sub-inspector Md Kamruzzaman reported that the pickup van collided head-on with the covered van at about 6:30am, leaving the two persons dead at the scene.
Police have seized both vehicles involved in the accident.
