Garment Sramik Samhati expressed concern over the killing of five garment workers during the students’ movement, demanding quota reform in government jobs.

In a press statement on Sunday, the organisation’s president Taslima Akhter and vice-president Anjan Das stated that at least five garment workers were killed during the nationwide student protests while law enforcers attempted to control the movement.

The garment workers, who were killed, are Yesmin Chowdhury in Dhaka, Mohammad Rasel in Narayanganj, Mohammad Zaman Mia in Mymensingh, Shuva Shil in Savar, and Zakir Hossain at Kapasia in Gazipur.

Leaders of the organisation also called on the government to stop the atrocities, committed to control the students’ movement and fulfil their nine-point demands.

The student protests, seeking quota reform in government services, saw more than 213 deaths in clashes and their aftermath between July 16 and July 28.
