
The chief of army staff, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, on Monday said that the situation in the country had started to become normal within 48 hours of army deployment.
‘I think the restoration of normal situation has started to the country within 48 hours of army deployment,’ he said while talking to reporters at the Sheikh Russell Roller Skating Stadium in the capital.
Urging all to cooperate with the Army, he said that the situation in the country would become normal soon, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.
‘Chaotic situation was created in the country. There was a loss of lives and properties. Many public properties were destroyed. In fact, the Bangladesh Army has been deployed to protect the lives and properties,’ he said.
He said that Bangladesh Army, along with Bangladesh Air Force, Bangladesh Navy, police, Rapid Action Battalion, Border Guard Bangladesh and Ansar personnel had been working together to bring normalcy in the country.
After visiting Narsingdi following a jail break by inmates during the violence marking anti-quota protest, inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah AL Mamun said that none involved in violence would be spared.
‘Everyone has to pay price for every crimes committed during the violence,’ he added.
The Army chief said that he had visited different areas in the city to witness the loss and damage of public properties.
‘We all together have been moving towards a peaceful situation. Insha Aallah, I think if we work together, we will be able to improve the situation more,’ he said.
The government imposed a curfew and deployed army midnight past Friday amid violent protests that, according to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· tally, killed at least 157 people in six days.
