The Dhaka Metropolitan Police banned movement of motorcycles inside the Dhaka metropolitan city from today (Saturday) for an indefinite period for public security.

The announcement was made on Friday, the second day of the ‘complete shutdown’ called by the students seeking a reform in quota system in public services.

DMP additional commissioner (traffic) Md Munibur Rahman told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Friday evening that movement of motorcycles inside the Dhaka metropolitan city had been banned from Saturday.

Replying to a question, he said that the ban would remain in effect until further notice.

At least 80 people were killed and hundreds injured (till Friday 8:00pm) as police and ruling party supporters had been clashing with student protesters in places across the country since July 16.

The communications across Bangladesh were heavily disrupted with the capital city Dhaka virtually cut off from the rest of the country for the second consecutive day on Friday.

No trains and inter-district buses ran across the country on Friday while no city-service buses ran inside the capital and launch services on Dhaka-Chandpur route had been shut on the day.

Few international flights had been disrupted on Friday also.

From today (Saturday), metro rail services in the capital have been suspended also for an indefinite period.
