
At least two people, including an Indian citizen, were killed and 12 others injured in separate road accidents in Sylhet and Gopalganj on Saturday.
United News of Bangladesh reported that an eight-year-old student died after being run over by a truck in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet in the afternoon.
The deceased Zobayer Ahmed, was a resident of Abdul Mahal village in West Alirgaon union. He was a student of Abdul Mahal Madrassah.
Gowainghat police station inspector (investigation) Mehedi Hasan Sumon confirmed the matter.
According to locals, Zobayer was crushed by a truck and died on the spot while crossing road in front of the madrassah on the Gowainghat-Sarighat road.
The body was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
The truck was seized but the driver fled the scene, said inspector Sumon.
UNB also reported that an Indian citizen was killed and twelve others were injured in a head-on-collision between two buses on Dhaka-Khulna highway at Faltita in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat.
The deceased Sridhar Ganguly, 45, was a resident of Birbhum upazila in West Bengal.
Mollahat highway police camp officer-in-charge Sheikh Nuruzzaman said that the head-on-collision left one dead on the spot and 12 others injured, who were taken to different hospitals, later.
Sridhar Ganguly, an Indian national, came to his ancestral home at Debgram of Kotalipara upazila in Gopalganj on June 16.
He died in the accident while returning to India.
