
Export-import trade at Mongla Port, the country鈥檚 second-largest seaport, has seen a notable increase in the financial year 2023-24 compared to FY2022-23.
In FY2022-23, 827 ships arrived at the port, while in FY2023-24, the number increased to 846, marking an increase of 19 ships. The target for ship arrivals in FY2023-24 was 840, surpassing the target by 6 ships, said a press release on Monday.
The total number of cars imported in FY2022-23 was 13,576, whereas in FY2023-24, 15,340 cars were imported, indicating an increase of 1,764 cars. Over the past 10 years, the port has handled the import of 10,785,979 cars.
In FY2022-23, Mongla Port handled 99.05 lakh metric tonnes of cargo. This figure rose to 108.68 lakh metric tonnes in FY2023-24.
The port managed 26,583 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) containers in FY2022-23, compared to 31,044 TEU containers in FY2023-24.
In terms of revenue, Tk 302 crore was collected in FY2022-23, whereas Tk 319 crore was collected in FY2023-24, showing a 28.55 per cent increase in revenue year-on-year.
Rear admiral Shaheen Rahman, chairman of Mongla Port Authority, stated that the port had increased in dynamism under the leadership of prime minister Sheikh Hasina and the overall supervision of shipping ministry.
