The members of the Rapid Action Battalion arrested five people with 170 stolen mobile phones from Gulistan area in the capital on Friday evening.

The arrested are Md Khokhon, 45, Md Harun, 40, Abdur Rahaman, 22, Nehal Rahaman Shobuj, 30, and Kamal Hossain, 28, assistant superintend of police and assistant director (media) of the RAB-10 MJ Sohel said on Sunday.


Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-10 conducted a drive in Gulistan Nagar Bhaban area of the Shahabagh police station and arrested them at about 8:00pm on Friday, he said.

During the operation, 163 stolen mobile phones and 7 tablets were seized from them and the estimated market value of the seized mobile phones and tablets is around Tk 3 lakh.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrested persons confessed that they were active members of mobile smugglers and they had been buying stolen mobiles and tablets from thieves and selling them in different areas of the country including the capital鈥檚 Gulistan, RAB said.

A case was filed against the arrested persons and they were handed over to the concerned police station, the RAB official said.
