The police on Monday arrested a youth with foreign rifles, bullets and magazines while smuggling betel nut sacks in a truck at Teknaf in Cox鈥檚 Bazar.
The arrested, Helal Uddin, 25, is a resident of East Jumchari of 鈥嬧�婻amu in the district.
Teknaf police station officer-in-charge Muhammad Osman Gani said that they had recovered illegal firearms based on information.
鈥榃e have launched an operation in the Jharna Square area of 鈥嬧�婽eknaf to arrest illegal firearms smuggling syndicate members,鈥� the OC added. 聽
The police searched a mini truck and seized a foreign G-3 rifle, 50 rounds bullets and two magazines from inside a betel nut sack, the OC said, adding that they also arrested one in this connection.
A case has been filed with the Teknaf police station, said the police official.
