Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere Bangladesh on Saturday celebrated its 75 years of partnership with Bangladesh in humanitarian support, fighting poverty, providing health services, food security and women empowerment.

Marking the day, CARE Bangladesh organised a meet the press at its office in the capital where its country director Ram Das spoke about the rich history, the present status, and future plans of the organisation.


The CARE, a leading humanitarian organisation fighting global poverty was founded in 1945 with the creation of the CARE Package® for world war victims. In 1949 it officially started its operation in Bangladesh.

Ram Das said that CARE had been working in Bangladesh for the development of the country over decades and played a pivotal role in rebuilding the newly born country in 1971.

Between 2012 and 2023, CARE extended hands to 20 per cent population of the country in all 64 districts investing Tk 418 million and setting a number of examples replicated by others.

Ram said that for 75 years, CARE Bangladesh had been carrying the legacy of its humanitarian heart with which it worked in more than a hundred countries.

CARE Bangladesh is currently working in multiple programmatic areas including health and nutrition, women and youth empowerment, humanitarian and climate action, said Ram.

CARE’s 2030 country programme strategy indicates that with the four impact drivers—gender equality, locally led, market-based approaches, and resilience building, CARE Bangladesh aims to ensure that 15 million people in Bangladesh, especially women and girls, are leading gender equal and resilient lives by 2030, Ram added.

Tony Michael, communications director CARE Bangladesh facilitated the press conference where other director and top officials of CARE were present.

CARE global president and CEO Michelle Nunn participated in the celebration virtually and wished all her colleagues in Bangladesh, said a press release.
