A speeding truck ran over a police constable on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Shaistaganj upazila in Habiganj leaving him dead in the early morning on Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Rabiul Haque, 25, son of Sayedul Haque of Alampur village at Fatikchhari upazila in Chattogram, police said.
Shaistaganj highway police station officer-in-charge Taimur Islam said that Rabiul was on his duty in front of the highway police station at Biramchar of the Shaistaganj upazila.
鈥楢 Dhaka-bound speeding truck suddenly ran over him at around 5:30am leaving him dead on the spot,鈥� the police officer said.
He said that truck driver Kamal, 52, a resident of Chakpara village at Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj, his assistants Monirul Islam, 26, and Ramzan, 18, of the same area, were arrested immediately after the accident.
鈥楾he body of Rabiul was sent to Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital for post-mortem examinations,鈥� the police officer said in the afternoon, adding that the process of filing a case in this regard was underway.
