Former vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, Professor Kazi Saleh Ahmed, died at a hospital in Dhaka Tuesday morning. He was 83.
Professor Meherun Ahmed, Kazi Saleh Ahmed’s daughter and dean of the school of business and entrepreneurship at Independent University, Bangladesh, confirmed the death. She, on behalf of the family, requested prayers for her father.
Kazi Saleh Ahmed, also former professor of JU statistics and data science department, left behind his wife, a son and a daughter to mourn his death.
Professor Saleh served the university as VC from 1988 to 1993.
His first Namaj-e-Janaza was held on Tuesday after zuhr prayers at Taqwa Mosque in Dhanmondi, while the second one at the central mosque on JU campus after asr prayers.
JU authorities announced mourning day on Tuesday, holding black flag in front of the administrative building and suspending all classes of the faculties, a JU public relations office notification said.
JU VC professor Nurul Alam expressed deep shock at the death of Kazi Saleh Ahmed. In a condolence message, he recalled teaching career and successful four-year tenure of vice-chancellorship of professor Saleh.
The VC also prayed for the eternal peace of professor Saleh’s departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
JU Department of Statistics Alumni Association also expressed deep condolence over the death of Kazi Saleh.
