Rajshahi divisional commissioner Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir on Monday directed authorities to cut off electricity, water, and gas connections to establishments, illegally built on government lands.

He issued the directive at a divisional development coordination committee meeting, held in the conference room of the divisional commissioner’s office, attended by government officials from eight districts.

Kabir emphasised the government’s zero-tolerance policy against illegal establishments on government lands, stating, ‘No one will be spared. No government institution will provide any services to any establishment if it is illegally built on occupied land’.

He also instructed executive magistrates to continue evicting illegal establishments from government lands.

Regarding ongoing government projects in the Rajshahi division, Kabir said that the prime minister had ordered the completion of already undertaken projects within the stipulated time.

He also urged officials to avoid unnecessary expenditures on new projects and directed them to personally inspect and verify project costs, ensuring that the costs and durations are not extended later.

In the meeting, steps were taken to encourage farmers to cultivate food grains instead of tobacco, standardising ‘maund’ as a unit of measurement for selling mangoes, preventing illegal structures on the banks of the River Padma, addressing consumer protection issues, and increasing awareness campaigns to protect beneficiaries from fraud.
