
State minister for the post, telecommunication, and information technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Monday told the Jatiya Sangsad that 41.78 per cent of the total registered SIMs is currently inactive.
Replying to a question of independent lawmaker Md Abdul Malak Sarkar, the state minister said that the total number of registered SIMs in the country is 33,27,56,970.
Among them, the number of active SIMs is 19,37,30,000 active SIMs, he said, adding that as such, 13,90,26,970 of the registered mobile SIMs in the country are inactive which is 41.78 per cent.
He also said that 55 per cent of the registered SIMs of Teletalk, lone state-owned mobile operator, is inactive.
According to the state minister, the gross number of registered SIMs of Grameen Phone is 11,95,67,925. Of them, 8,39,50,000 are active and 3,56,17,925 are inactive.
Banglalink鈥檚 total registered SIMs are 9,7,65,962. Of them, 4,47,20,000 are active. Rob鈥檚 has total 10,79,61,800 SIMs. Of them, 5,85,10,000 are active. Teletalk鈥檚 registered SIMs are 1,44,61,283.
The state minister said that the current call rate was determined in 2018 after reviewing the market and analysing the socio-economic context and there are no plans to revise the call rates.
