An elderly man was killed in a road accident on the Hanif flyover at Tikatuli in the capital on Friday.
The identity of the deceased, aged about 60 years, could not be known immediately.
Local people said that the accident took place at about 2:30pm when an unidentified vehicle hit the man while he was crossing the road, leaving him injured.
Later, they rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead at about 3:00pm.
Pedestrian Kaushik Ahmed, who brought the deceased to the hospital, said that he saw the old man lying on the side of the road.
鈥榃e rescued him and took him to the DMCH鈥檚 emergency department where he was pronounced dead,鈥� he said.
DMCH outpost in-charge Md Bachchu Mia said that the body was kept at the hospital鈥檚 morgue.
