The Dhaka South City Corporation has claimed that it had removed 100 per cent of the wastes generated from sacrificial animals from all 75 wards within 10 hours.

In a press release on Tueday, the DSCC said that it had removed the wastes completely at 12:15am on Tuesday. The cleaning programme began at 2:00pm on Monday, the day of Eid-ul-Azha.


The release said that the corporation also removed 100 per cent wastes from six cattle markets, out of 11.

Earlier, the North City Corporation, in a press release on Monday, said that it had completed the removal of sacrificial animal remains by 8:00pm from all 54 wards in the corporation area.

The DSCC mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and the DNCC mayor Atiqul Islam inaugurated the waste removal works in separate programmes at about 2:00pm on Monday.

Earlier, the DSCC mayor had vowed to remove the waste within 24 hours on Eid day, while the DNCC mayor had committed to completing the task within six hours.

More than 19,500 cleaners were deployed, with 10,257 working in areas under the DSCC and 9,337 in areas under the DNCC.
