Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Habibur Rahman on Sunday said that five-tier security measures were taken to ensure smooth Eid congregation in Bangladesh capital Dhaka, including that at the National Eidgah in the city.

He said that the measures would be taken to maintain law and order situation in the city for Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, to be celebrated across the country on Monday.


There was no fear of any kind of terrorist attack during Eid, he told reporters after inspecting the overall security arrangements on the National Eidgah premises in the morning.

In response to a question, he said, ‘There is no information of extremist activities in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police area. DMP, has, however, taken security measure keeping all such issues under consideration.’

He said that about 25 lakh animals would be sacrificed in the Dhaka city and arrangements had been made by the two city corporations for waste disposal of sacrificial animals after those were slaughtered throughout the city. 

He called upon the city dwellers to cooperate with the city corporations and the police in disposal of the wastes in accordance with the rules.
