The police have recovered Tk 46.2 lakh stolen from businessman in Bangladesh capital Dhaka, Shawkat Hossain Sumon.
The recovery by the Sutrapur Police Station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police came following a series of operations in Cox鈥檚 Bazar and Gazipur, leading to the arrest of the primary suspect, driver Rubel, 36.
The incident began on June 12, 2024, when Sumon, aged 41, visited the CMM court in Old Dhaka to attend a hearing. He was carrying Tk 52 lakh in cash intended for his hospital employees鈥� salaries. Sumon left the money in his car and went to have breakfast at Star Hotel and Restaurant on Johnson Road. Seizing the opportunity, Rubel, the driver, fled with the money.
Despite extensive searches, Sumon was unable to locate Rubel.
On the night of April 14, 2024, he filed a complaint with the Sutrapur Police Station.
Later, police launched operations and arrest Rubel in Cox鈥檚 Bazar. Based on Rubel鈥檚 information, further raids in Cox鈥檚 Bazar and Gazipur resulted in the recovery of Tk 46.2 lakh in cash.
Assistant police commissioner of Kotwali Zone, Nazrul Islam, said, 鈥榃e started the operation as soon as we received the complaint from the plaintiff. We were able to arrest the accused and recover Tk 46.2 lakh in cash.鈥�
Deputy police commissioner Md Mahbub-uz-Zaman said, 鈥榃e have already handed over the accused Rubel to the court. The operation is ongoing to recover the remaining money.鈥�
