
A suspect in the murder of ruling Awami League lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar was brought back to Kolkata from Nepal, the police told a press briefing in Dhaka on Friday.
Meanwhile on Thursday night, the police detained a local AL leader in Jhenaidah for questioning.
鈥楾he Criminal Investigation Department of Kolkata [West Bengal] is interrogating him,鈥 Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Habibur Rahman briefed journalists at the DMP headquarters in the city.
He did not disclose the suspect鈥檚 name.
Replying to a query at the briefing, he said that it was a set rule that the investigation would be conducted at the place of occurrence.
鈥業f anyone does any criminal activities in foreign countries, we can also ensure justice bringing him back. The Kolkata CID is investigating the case and has brought an accused from Nepal. Now they have two accused [in their custody],鈥 he said.
The DMP commissioner said that both countries were conducting investigations.
鈥榃e will mutually decide which country will hold the trial,鈥 he added.
Although the DMP commissioner did not reveal the name of the suspect arrested in Nepal, police and detective branch officials confirmed to 抖阴精品 that it was Siam Hossain.
Two cases were filed in two countries over lawmaker Anar murder鈥攁 murder case in India, and an abduction case in Bangladesh, according to DB officials.
Earlier on Thursday, on his return to Bangladesh from Nepal, DMP detective branch chief Harun-or-Rashid at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport said that Nepal would decide to whom it would hand over Siam Hossain鈥擨ndia or Bangladesh.
鈥楽iam is also the 鈥渕ost wanted鈥 in India as the murder took place in its state of West Bengal鈥 If Nepal hands over Siam to India considering the place of occurrence, it will not make any impact on our investigation,鈥 said Harun.
On Thursday night, the DMP Detective Branch detained AL Jhenaidah district unit relief and social welfare affairs secretary Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu from Jhenaidah Sadar upazila in connection with the case.聽
Confirming his detaining, Jhenaidah superintendent of police Md Azim Ul Ahsan told 抖阴精品, 鈥楾he DB detained Kamal from Jhenaidah at about 8:30pm on Thursday. They told us that they would interrogate him.鈥
According to the local people, Babu had a close relation with Shimul Bhuiyan, arrested in Bangladesh as one of the suspects.
They said that he was a relative of the United States citizen Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen, the alleged mastermind of the murder.聽
The West Bengal CID had recovered four kilogram of flesh which was undergoing forensic test.聽
Anar鈥檚 daughter Mumtarin Ferdoush Dorin was set to go to India but it was deferred as the forensic report had yet to be produced.
MP Anar鈥檚 personal assistant Abdur Rauf confirmed the matter to 抖阴精品.
鈥業ndian authorities said that they would inform us after completing the forensic test. MP鈥檚 daughter will leave for Kolkata then,鈥 he added.聽
A Dhaka court on May 31 placed three suspects, Syed Amanullah Aman alias Shimul Bhuiyan, his associate Tanvir Bhuiyan, and Celesty Rahman, on a five-day fresh remand in police custody in the case filed over the abduction of Anwarul Azim.
A Dhaka Court on June 4 recorded the confessional statement of Tanvir Bhuiyan and sent him to jail.
Tanvir Bhuiyan gave the confessional statement a day after Celesty Rahman, one of the three suspects arrested in Bangladesh.
Jhenaidah-4 lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar went to India for medical treatment on May 11 and went missing on May 14.
On May 22, Kolkata detectives confirmed that he was murdered.
