The authorities of Rajshahi University have decided to terminate its medical centre’s deputy chief medical officer Razu Ahmmed for harassing a schoolgirl sexually.
The decision was made at the university’s 531st syndicate meeting held at the university’s Shahid Tajuddin Ahmad Senate Building on Monday night with vice-chancellor professor Golam Sabbir Sattar in the chair.
Pro-vice-chancellor for administration professor Sultan-Ul-Islam told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they had taken the decision following the recommendations made by the probe committee as the latter found the physician guilty.
Earlier on October 30, the mother of a Class VIII female student, also a professor at the university, lodged a written complaint with the university authorities and filed a case with the Boalia police station against Razu Ahmmed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
In the case statement, the professor stated that she took her 13-year-old daughter to Razu’s private chamber at Amana Clinic in the Talaimari area in Rajshahi on October 30 as the latter was suffering from a dental problem.
‘I heard a scream of my daughter after I went out of the doctor’s chamber to receive a phone call,’ she said, alleging that her daughter informed her that the physician touched her private parts.
Later, two and a half hours after the incident, a group of people stormed into Razu’s chamber and beat him at about 11:30pm.
Amid protest from the teachers and students, the university authorities suspended Razu Ahmmed and formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the allegation against him.
Later, the probe committee submitted its report to the university authorities stating that it had found Razu Ahmmed guilty of harassing the female student.
