
The Bangladesh Railway is going to sell all advance intercity train tickets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha online from June 2 on different schedules.
Four cattle special trains will run between June 12 and June 14.
This Eid, 20 special additional trains will run to carry passengers.
At a press briefing held on Tuesday and attended, among others, by railways minister Md Zillul Hakim, Bangladesh Railway director general Sardar Shahadat Ali gave the information.
This year Eid-ul-Azha is likely to be held on June 17.
For the Eid time travellers the railway is going to sell advance tickets for five days.
For Eid-ul-Azha, on June 2, advance tickets will be sold for train journeys on June 12, on June 3 for June 13, on June 4 for June 14, on June 5 for June 15, and on June 6 for June 16.
Selling of advance tickets for trains in the west zone would start from 8:00am and for trains in the east zone would start from 2:00pm till the tickets remain available.
Based on sighting of the moon, the tickets of June 17–19 will be sold.
The number of intercity train tickets from Dhaka to other districts is 33,500 each day.
On June 10, advance return tickets will be sold for June 20, on June 11 for June 21, on June 12 for June 22, on June 13 for June 23 and on June 14 for June 24.
Twenty-five per cent standing tickets for non-air-conditioned compartments will be sold at counters during Eid journeys.
To carry the sacrificial cattle, the railway will run Cattle Special train 1 and 2 between June 12 and June 14 in the west zone.
In east zone, railway will run Cattle Special train 1 and 2 on June 12 and Cattle Special train 1 on June 13.
During this Eid, 10 additional trains will operate between June 12 and the day before Eid and seven days from the day after the Eid on Chattogram–Chandpur, Dhaka–Dewanganj, Chattogram–Mymensingh, and Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar routes.
Eight additional trains, Sholakia Eid Special-11, 12, 13 and 14 and Gor-a-Shaheed Eid Special-17, 18, 19 and 20, will run on the Eid day on Bhairab Bazar–Kishoreganj, Mymensingh–Kishoreganj, Joydevpur–Parbatipur and Thakurgaon–Dinajpur routes respectively.
A person can buy a maximum of four tickets, giving the NIDs or birth certificate numbers of all passengers.
No advance tickets are refundable.
From June 12 all intercity trains’ weekly off day will be cancelled till Eid-ul-Azha.
From June 12, the intercity Nilsagar and Chilahati express trains will start from the airport station instead of Kamalapur station.     Â
International trains Maitree Express will be closed in June 14–22, Mitali Express will be closed on June 14–20 and Bandhan Express will be closed on June 16–20.
A plan was made to use 249 locomotives and add 162 coaches to existing coaches of the trains before Eid after repairing.
The railways minister said that strict monitoring would be made to prevent buying and selling of the tickets on the black market.
He also urged the passengers not to travel on train roofs.
The briefing was attended, among others, by senior officials of the railways ministry and Bangladesh Railway.
