Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday said that the ban on movement of battery-run rickshaws in the capital was illogical since the livelihood of the drivers depended on it.

She wanted movement of such vehicles within limited areas of the capital, said cabinet secretary Md Mahbub Hossain, quoting the PM, at a briefing at secretariat.

The PM also wanted higher monitoring of the commodity market by the commerce ministry while she was presiding over the weekly cabinet meeting.

The cabinet approved a number of proposals, including a guideline on the introduction of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Peace Prize worth $1.0 million.

An individual or an organisation contributing to the global peace would be given the prize in every two years, said the cabinet secretary.

He said that the government was expecting to hold the inaugural ceremony of the award in 2025.
