Considering the ongoing heatwave and it dire impact, National Museum of Science and Technology took an initiative to distribute umbrellas among the poor students in the remote areas of the country.

Science museum officials have distributed 2,000 umbrellas to the poor students of different primary and secondary schools and madrassah and orphanages in the remote areas of Chattogram, Kishoreganj, Narayanganj, Rangpur, Faridpur, Tangail, Jashore and Narsingdi, including Dhaka, since May 1, said a press release.


Imported from China, the umbrellas are specially designed to create interest in science education among students in remote areas.

During the distribution of umbrellas, as a part of increasing environmental awareness, speeches on science, tree plantation, environmental protection and environmentally friendly living, were also organised with the teachers and students of the educational institutions.

NMST director general Muhammad Munir Chowdhury said that science museum was not only engaged in encouraging students in science practice, but also distributing umbrellas to protect them from severe heat and storms.

‘The museum is contributing to nation building by distributing science books, journals, magazines and science materials among students,’ he added.
