From next Sunday, two benches of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will conduct the court to accelerate the trial proceedings, said Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan on Sunday morning.
He said this to the lawyers present in the Appellate Division courtroom.
Welcoming the decision, senior lawyers of the Supreme Court said that this would sharply increase the rate of everyday judicial proceedings.
A sole bench trial had been going on for months in the Appellate Division due to a shortage of judges in the Appellate Division.
On Wednesday (April 24), president Mohammed Shahabuddin appointed three judges in line with Article 95 (1) of the Constitution, by elevating them from the High Court Division to the Appellate Division.
The three new apex court judges are — Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz, Justice Md Shahinur Islam and Justice Kashefa Hussain.
With the new appointments, the total number of judges at the Appellate Division is now eight.
