Jahangirnagar University students seized eight buses of ‘Itihas Paribahan’ over an accident with a private car of a female student of the university in Dhaka’s Savar area Saturday morning.

Following the accident, the female student called her fellow students to seize the bus.

According to JU’s security office, the buses are kept at the university’s main entrance area on the Dhaka-Aricha highway to claim compensation for ‘severe’ damage to the reported car.

‘Due to a sudden hard brake in New Market area of Savar, my car fell in an accident. I want compensation for the careless driving’, the victim, a master’s student of computer science and engineering department of JU, said.

However, the seized buses were released in the evening on condition of providing Tk 60,000 in compensation to the car owner, Itihas Paribahan checker Jasim Uddin said.

Terming the incident as injustice, Tofazzal Hossain, a driver of a bus for the transport company, said that the car itself hit their bus and got damaged.

‘But they are collecting compensation for the damage from us using their influence,’ he added.

JU proctor Mohammad Alamgir Kabir refused to comment on the frequent seizing of buses by the students of the university over trifling matters.
