Deutsche Presse-Agentur Bangladesh correspondent Nazrul Islam Mithu and Associated Press Bangladesh bureau chief Julhas Alam have been elected as the president and general secretary respectively of Overseas Correspondents Association Bangladesh, a platform for Dhaka based journalists working in the international media, executive committee for next two years.

The chief election commissioner journalist Shahjahan Sarder announced names of the executive committee members elected for 2024-25, following OCAB’s annual general meeting held on Friday at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka, said a press release.


The meeting began with the mourning of the deceased OCAB members and paying one minute silence tribute for peace of their departed souls.

The other office bearers are – vice-president Shafiqul Alam, bureau chief of Agence France-Presse Bangladesh, general secretary Naim-Ul-Karim, Xinhua News Agency’s Dhaka bureau in-charge, and treasurer Pulack Ghatak, Benar News correspondent, and members Qadir Kallol, Rafique Rahman, Farid Hossain, Haroon Habib, Parveen F Chowdhury and Sabbir.

Senior journalists Quadir Kallol and Shahjahan Sarder conducted the election.

In the general meeting before the election, some changes in the organisation’s organogram and other organisational proposals were taken place.

Nazrul Islam Mithu presented the AGM report as member secretary in where Quadir Kallol chaired the general meeting as the organisation’s convener.
