The police have arrested the prime accused in the killing of a security guard on duty at Modhumoti Bank’s ATM booth in Gulshan area of ​​the capital.

The accused, Ariful Islam, 27, was arrested from Kalachandpur area of the capital by the Detective Branch’s Gulshan division on Sunday night.


Ariful planned to rob the bank booth following a YouTube video, DB chief Harun-or-Rashid said in a press briefing on Monday at DMP media centre in the capital.

‘Ariful bought some knives from a market in Mirpur area and decided to rob the booth of Modhumoti Bank in Shahjadpur area of ​​Gulshan,’ he said.

The DB chief said that Ariful lost Tk 14-15 lakh in his business and was heavily indebted.

‘He tried to repay the money by selling his kidney. Being failed, he planned to rob an ATM booth after watching a bank booth robbery scene on YouTube,’ Harun said.

He also said that Ariful first hacked the security guard of the booth to death and tried to break the booth but failed.

Ariful, who was arrested in a case filed with Gulshan police station, has been sent to court, added the DB chief.

On April 10, security guard Hasan Mahmud was stabbed to death at the ATM booth of Modhumoti Bank at a multi-storey building named Maisha Chowdhury Tower in Shahjadpur area of Gulshan around 5:15am.
