The police arrested four more suspected members of the armed national minority group Kuki-Chin National Front at places of Bandarban Sadar on Saturday afternoon.

The arrests were made in connection with attacks on banks and police installations that saw cash and arms looted in April 2–4 at Ruma and Thanchi in Bandarban hill district, said Ruma police station officer-in-charge Md Shahjahan.


He said that the four suspects were produced before a Bandarban court on Sunday morning and the court sent them to jail.

The suspects are Lal Roubat Bawm, 27, of Remakri Pransa union of Ruma, Lal Lam Bawm, 31, of Kuhalong union under Bandarban Sadar, Mithusel Bawm, 25, ward-6 at Ruma’s Paindu union, and LAl Ruyat Lian Bawm, 38, of ward-3 of Bandarban Sadar.

Earlier, on April 9, 54 suspected KNF people were produced before a Bandarban court and the court sent them to jail posting for April 28 and 29 the hearing of the cases.

On April 2, the separatist group tried to loot Tk 1.5 crore from the vault of the Sonali Bank’s Ruma upazila branch. In failure, they kidnapped the branch manager Nizam Uddin.

They also carried out robberies at Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank branches in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban on April 3.

They looted at least 12 firearms, 400 bullets, Tk 17 lakh in cash during the attacks.

On April 4, abducted bank manager Nizam was rescued from the Bathel Para area of Bandarban through mediation of the Rapid Action Battalion.
