Bangladesh FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia maintained the lead in the open section of the Asian Zone 3.2 Chess Championship for the second consecutive day after a draw against Sri Lankan IM GMH Thilakaratne in the sixth round in Colombo on Saturday.

Tahsin, who took the lead by beating LP Rashmitha of Sri Lanka in the fifth round on Friday, stayed on top with five points.


Among the other Bangladeshi campaigners, IM Manon Reja Neer, IM Fahad Rahman and FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Emon each earned 4.5 points to share the second position with three Sri Lankan – IM Liyanage Ranindu Dilshan, IM GMH Thilakaratne and Liyanage.

Neer and Emon beat WD Nimsara and Ganepola Thuhanu Yasmith, respectively, while Fahad drew against IM LR Dilshan.

FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid lost to LP Rashmitha to earn 3.5 points.

In the women’s section, Bangladeshi WFM Wadifa Ahmed drew against Newansa Eshandi. Wadifa earned 4.5 points to share the second spot with two Sri Lankans – WCM Sanudula KM Dahamdi and Rathnayake RM Dulinma Hemalni.

WIM GD Oshini earned 5 points after the sixth round to lead the women’s section.

Bangladeshi WIM Rani Hamid earned four points to share the third position with the other three players after beating WCM Jayasundara Therundi. WFM Noshin Anjum earned 3 points after losing to WCM GPY Wijesuriya of Sri Lanka.
