
Bangladesh’s campaign in the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad ended on Sunday in Budapest, Hungary, with the men’s team defeating South Korea by 3-1 points in the open section and the women’s team losing to Belgium by 1.5-2.5 points in the 11th and final round.
Bangladesh men’s team earned 12 points from 11 rounds to finish in 78th position among 188 countries while women’s team secured 11 points from as many rounds to be placed 81st among 167 countries.
The men’s team registered five wins against two draws and four losses, while the women’s team registered the same number of wins against one draw and five losses.
In the final round open section matches, GM Enamul Hossain Razib and FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia defeated IM Ahn Hongjin and Huh Isaak, respectively, while FM ManonReja Neer and GM Niaz Murshed played out draws against IM Lee Junhyok and Yun Hungi, respectively.
In the women’s section, WIM Rani Hamid defeated Dierckens Sara of Belgium; WFM NoshinAnjum drew against WIM Goossens Hanne, while WCM Nusrat JahanAlo and WFM Wadifa Ahmed lost to WFM Vanduyfhuys Daria and WFM De Rycke Tyani, respectively.
