Dhaka University on Wednesday conferred the faculty of science Dean’s Award for three academic years—2021, 2022, and 2023—honouring 76 students and 48 teachers for outstanding academic and research achievements.
The awards were presented at a ceremony at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on the campus, with DU vice-chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan attending as chief guest and faculty dean Professor Abdus Salam presiding.
Eight departments and one institute under the faculty were recognised at the event. Ten teachers received the Dean’s Award for published books and research papers, while 38 others were given incentive cheques for publications in Q1 and Q2 international journals.
Speaking at the event, DU VC Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan said that the programme celebrated the dedication and accomplishments of DU teachers and students, adding that sustained effort, more than talent alone, lead to real success.
Special guests included DU pro-vice-chancellor for administration Professor Sayema Haque Bidisha, pro-VC for education Professor Mamun Ahmed, treasurer Professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, and National University pro-VC Professor Lutfor Rahman.
Speakers stressed the need for a research-oriented academic environment, adequate funding, and stronger industry–academia collaboration to advance higher education.
Dean Professor Abdus Salam also called for greater institutional support to strengthen scientific research at the university.
