A seminar titled Digital Contents: Information, Risk and Ethics was held at Jahangirnagar University at Savar in Dhaka on Thursday, focusing on the ethical challenges and risks associated with the growing influence of digital information.
The biological sciences faculty in collaboration with the Media and Information Literacy Network Bangladesh organised the seminar at the Wazed Miah Science Research Centre.
JU pro-vice-chancellor Professor Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, also the acting VC of the university, attended the seminar as chief guest.
In his address, he highlighted how technological advancement made research easier, allowing most information to be accessed directly through digital means.
‘There is no alternative to technology for progress and success in this era,’ he said, emphasising the need for its responsible and ethical use.
The keynote paper was presented by Professor Mofizur Rahman of the mass communication and journalism department at the University of Dhaka.
He discussed the importance of media literacy, ethical standards and the role of information dissemination in shaping public perception.
He also underlined the necessity of distinguishing between information and misinformation to build a more informed society.
Dean of the arts and humanities faculty Mozammel Haque and dean of the biological sciences faculty Mafruhi Sattar, among others, also spoke at the event.
