The American International University-Bangladesh organised a two-day international symposium titled ‘Responsive and Responsible University: Global Perspectives from the Magna Charta Observatory Research Initiative’ concluded at the AIUB in Dhaka on Friday.

The symposium was organised by AIUB’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell in collaboration with the Magna Charta Observatory, said a press release.


More than 150 participants attended the international event, including vice-chancellors, pro-VCs and IQAC directors from different universities in Bangladesh, as well as representatives from Ireland, Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine, and North Macedonia universities.

The inaugural ceremony featured speeches by Carmen Z Lamagna, member of the board of trustees of AIUB; and David J Lock, secretary general of the Magna Charta Observatory.

Hasanul A Hasan, founding member of the board of trustees of AIUB; Ishtiaque Abedin, founding member of the board of trustees of AIUB and secretary general of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh; along with faculty members, officials and international delegates from various universities also attended the symposium.

The symposium’s panel discussions featured Professor Mohammad Anwar Hossen, member of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh; Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmed, chairman of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council; and vice-chancellors of different private universities.

In addition, AIUB students also presented their research during the event.
