
North South University hosted its fall semester orientation programme on its campus in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The semester-wise orientation programme aims to acquaint students with the university’s culture and academic approach, said a press release.
In the programme, 94 students were awarded scholarships at varying rates, including 100 per cent merit scholarships granted to 35 students in recognition of their exceptional performance in the admission test.
Md Mokhles Ur Rahman, senior secretary, Ministry of Public Administration, attended the event as chief guest.
NSU board of trustees of chairman Aziz Al Kaiser attended as special guest while NSU board of trustees member Benajir Ahmed attended as guest of honour at the event, which was chaired by NSU vice-chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury.
NSU registrar Ahmed Tazmeen delivered the welcome speech to the new students.
Professor Md Rizwanul Islam, dean of school of humanities and social sciences; Professor Shazzad Hosain, dean of school of engineering and physical sciences; Professor Dipak Kumar Mitra, dean of school of health and life sciences; and Professor AKM Waresul Karim, dean of the school of business and economics, introduced their respective schools.
Md Mokhles Ur Rahman said that in just 31 years, the NSU had achieved an extraordinary position in the landscape of higher education in Bangladesh. ‘Within this short span of time, NSU has demonstrated that with quality education, advanced research and a modern outlook.’
Aziz Al Kaiser said that NSU was committed to providing world-class education, preparing students to apply their knowledge to real-life challenges.
Benajir Ahmed remarked, ‘A person is shaped by their environment. Since its inception, NSU has been committed to providing students with a creative and constructive environment.’
To expand this vision further, we have developed a new campus in Purbachal, including residential facilities for students, he mentioned.
Congratulating the new students who have been admitted to NSU, Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury said, ‘You have proven your potential by completing one of the most rigorous admission tests in Bangladesh. Only the most deserving candidates earn this opportunity.’

NSU treasurer Professor Abdur Rob Khan delivered the vote of thanks at the programme, which concluded with a cultural performance by members of the North South University Shangskritik Shangathan.
