
The authorities of Islamic University in Kushtia formed an 11-member committee to draft the constitution for its central student union and hall parliament.
A press release, signed by the institution’s acting registrar Professor M Manjurul Haque, was issued in this regard on Wednesday.
Accounting and information systems department Professor M Mizanur Rahman at the university was made the committee’s convener with Arabic language and literature Professor M Kamrul Hasan being made member secretary.
The other members of the committee are Management professor Alinur Rahman, Da’wah and Islamic studies professor Shahid Muhammad Rezwan, Arabic language and literature professor M Tozammel Hossain, electrical and electronic engineering professor M Najibul Haque, Al-Hadith and Islamic studies professor M Mostafizur Rahman, and economics professor Kazi Mostafa Arif.
Three external experts of the committee are Dhaka University’s law faculty dean Professor Ekramul Haque, Chittagong University’s law faculty dean Professor Zafar Ullah Talukder, and Supreme Court’s senior advocate Barrister Imam Hossain Sidney.
The committee has been tasked with formulating the constitution and submitting the draft to the university vice-chancellor Professor Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah as soon as possible.
The move follows a meeting on Monday between the VC and student representatives from ‘Movement for IUCSU’ where students urged the authorities to expedite the formation of the student union and arrange elections without delay.
