Dhaka University vice-chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan on Sunday emphasised preserving the unprecedented national unity demonstrated during last year’s historic July mass uprising, calling it vital for the nation’s future.
He made the emphasis while speaking at a seminar titled ‘July mass uprising 2024: A new chapter of awakening’, organised by DU’s faculty of science on the campus, said a press release.
Professor Niaz said that from students to rickshaw-pullers, garment workers to academics – July had showed their collective strength. The hard-won unity had to endure.
The seminar was chaired by pro-vice chancellor, education, Professor Mamun Ahmed while pro-vice-chancellor (administration) Professor Saima Haque Bidisha spoke as special guest.
Tajmeri SA Islam, a member of DU Syndicate and retired chemistry professor, presented the keynote address while Professor Abdus Salam, dean of the faculty of science, delivered the welcome speech.
The event, part of DU’s month-long anniversary observances, featured remarks of DU teachers and student testimonials recounting uprising experiences
Monday’s seminars will continue at 11:00am at faculty of business studies and at 3:00 pm at faculty of law.
The series aims to transform July’s grassroots solidarity into sustained civic engagement.
