UCSI University Bangladesh Branch Campus commemorated the first anniversary of the July 2024 uprising with a discussion and photo exhibition, reflecting on the movement’s legacy and the nation’s political direction, in Dhaka’s Banani area on Tuesday.
Speakers at the event voiced concerns over the lack of progress in fulfilling the aspirations that fuelled the uprising against the then-Awami League government, pointing to ongoing corruption, land grabbing, and political misinformation as persistent issues, said a press release.
The programme, which began with a moment of silence for the martyrs of the July uprising and victims of the recent air force plane crash at Milestone School and College, was also addressed by Professor Golam Ahmed Faruqui, business and management faculty dean, and Professor Bijoy Prasad Barua, social sciences and liberal arts faculty dean.
Student representatives Md Ahnaf Fateh Hossain and Masfia Rahman Ruhee also spoke at the event, which concluded with closing remarks from the university provost Chan Joe Jim.
A photo exhibition capturing key moments from the July 2024 uprising followed the discussion, drawing attention to the movement’s enduring significance.
