Gazipur Agricultural University hosted the closing and certificate-awarding ceremony of the ‘digital skills for students training programme at the Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the university on Saturday.

The department of computer science and information technology organised the programme as part of the enhancing digital government and economy project, said a press release. 


Jointly funded by the ICT division and the World Bank, the programme was launched in January in the past year.

This initiative has trained nearly 500 local and international students across 20 batches, equipping them with advanced digital skills, modern technology know-how and self-reliance paving the way for a smart Bangladesh powered by skilled human resources.

Presided over by GAU vice-chancellor Professor GKM Mustafizur Rahman, Chief Adviser’s Office secretary M Saifullah Panna was present as chief guest at the programme. 

GAU pro-VC Professor M Moynul Haque, treasurer Professor Md Safiul Islam Afrad and former member of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority Md Rejaul Karim were present as special guests at the programme.

The programme began with prayers in memory of the children died in the recent Milestone tragedy.

Training coordinator Professor Moinul Hosain Oliver presented a summary of the programme’s objectives, implementation strategy and successes at the programme. 

Trainees shared reflections on their learning journeys at the programme.

M Saifullah Panna emphasised, ‘In today’s global landscape, digital skills are not just an asset, they are essential. This kind of training prepares our youth for the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.’

He also encouraged students to explore freelancing and digital platforms.

Professor Mustafizur Rahman, in his closing remarks, paid tribute to the victims of the July 21 tragedy and urged students to apply their newfound skills meaningfully in advancing the nation.

He highlighted the GAU’s leading position in national and international rankings, reinforcing the university’s commitment to excellence.

The event was vibrant and festive, marked by the enthusiastic participation of faculty, trainers, staff, and students.

Notably, the EDGE project aims to create over 1,00,000 employment opportunities and increase ICT exports to $300 million by 2026 through developing a skilled, tech-driven workforce.
