After a prolonged hiatus spanning over three decades, Rajshahi University is set to announce the election schedule for its central student union on July 28.

A notice issued by the Rajshahi University Central Students Union Election 2025 chief election commissioner Professor Md Amzad Hossain on Wednesday said that the electoral road map would be announced at the university’s Senate Building at 3:00pm on July 28.

‘The full schedule of the election will subsequently be available on the university’s official web site,’ it added.

Earlier on February 27, the RU authorities announced a road map for the RUCSU election with the possible date of holding the election in June.

The university authorities published the draft amendments to the RUCSU constitution on March 16, urging the university teachers and students to provide their suggestions and opinions on the draft constitution.

Later on April 15, the RUCSU’s revised constitution was approved at the university’s 538th syndicate meeting.

On the same day, the university authorities also formed a seven-member election commission with Professor Md Amzad Hossain as the chief election commissioner to oversee the long-awaited student body elections.

RUCSU has remained inactive for over three decades, with the last election held in 1989.

As per the previous road map, the draft voter list was scheduled to be published on April 28 and the final voter list on May 13, while the date for distributing nomination papers was May 15.

As the university authorities failed to comply with the announced road map, students went on demonstrations in May, and they staged a day-long sit-in in front of the university administration building on Monday, demanding the announcement of a full schedule for RUCSU elections.
