Bangladesh Medical University observed the anniversary of July mass uprising holding a rally and planting trees on the BMU in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The rally started from in front of the administrative building and ended on the Super Specialised Hospital premises of the BMU, said a press release on Tuesday.


A tree plantation programme and a short gathering were organised there.

BMU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam was present as chief guest at the event.

To mark the July Mass Uprising Month-2025, the programmes undertaken by BMU include documentary and still film screenings, blood donation, and blood donor registration, drawing and writing competitions, discussion, free medical services in the outpatient department,

Shahinul Alam said that July uprising of the student and people led to the fall of the fascist government. ‘The country was going backward then, people did not have rights. Now is the time to take the country forward.’

He also mentioned that Bangladesh Medical University must be taken further forward. ‘More skilled specialist doctors must be produced. The quality of medical services must be further improved.’

BMU pro-VC for administration Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad said that the Awami League government had also partisanised the freedom fighter quota. ‘People of the country did not have freedom of speech.’

‘Now the country has to be taken forward,’ he said.

Pro-VC for research and development Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Hawlader said that the student and people sacrificed their lives standing in front of bullets. ‘We are the beneficiaries of their sacrifices. We pray for the forgiveness and peace of the souls killed in the July. We must ensure that the injured gets better treatment.’

Treasurer Professor Dr Nahrin Akhtar said that they should work to ensure that the sacrifice of the people killed in the July uprising did not go in vain.

Registrar Professor Dr Md Nazrul Islam said that for the development of Bangladesh and the fulfilment of the hopes of the people, it was necessary to establish a democratic government through national elections. ‘Everyone should work together to implement that goal.’

Dean of the faculty of surgery Professor Dr Md Ruhul Amin, BMU proctor associate professor Dr Sheikh Farhad, plastic surgeon Dr Iqbal Mahmud Rony, dental surgeon Dr Sakhawat Hossain, finance and accounts director  Khandaker Shafiqul Hasan Ratan, finance and accounts additional directors Nasir Uddin and Mohammad Badrul Huda, private secretary-1 to the vice chancellor Dr Md Ruhul Qaddus Biplob, private secretary-2 Md Lutfur Rahman, deputy director for public relations (additional responsibilities) Dr Saiful Alam Ranzu, private secretary to the pro-VC Md Humayun Kabir, private secretary to the treasurer Sabina Yasmin, BMU officials Md Yahia Khan, Md Shamim Ahmed, Md Ilias Hossain, among others, were present at the events.
